The editorial from the New York Times is about immigration reform, which is a huge issue in our society. The illegal immigrants that cross the border from any country are supposed to go to jail (the US government has grown more strict about the immigration because of the terrorist attacks) according to the 287(g) program.
More than 32,000 immigrants have been caught by the program. The 287(g) is a program made to catch all the illegal immigrants the federal government organized. There have been many arguments that were related to the small group that catch illegal immigrants. Janet Napolitano made a plan centralize the federal security control that takes care of detainees. Over the last few years, the Bush administration have outsourced so much that making immigration illegal has made life more harder for government workers. As a result, the immigrants do all the work that the people who are “legal” don’t want to do.
But the question is this: Will President Obama make Immigration reform more strict? Or less strict? The program 287(g) is a way to make immigration laws strict but it just seems to make economy worse. Since all the immigrants will work for almost anything, the small, dirty jobs like janitors, window wipers, farmers, and other low jobs, all the unwanted jobs can be done. So with the immigrants, the economy might be better. But without the immigrants, the economy might not be as good. In conclusion, the immigration reform should be less strict because since the economy is down, everything should be tried for making the economy better.
